Recent Acquisitions – UH Arts Collection
21 June, 2014 - 15 July, 2014
FreeThe University of Hertfordshire Galleries is showcasing recent acquisitions to their art collection.
This broad and eclectic collection was established in 1952 and includes nearly 500 works of art exhibited across their campus. The collection seeks to enhance the university environment, introducing modern and contemporary art in places where people study, work and visit.
The collection was founded on works by Barbara Hepworth and Ben Nicholson. It is a growing collection with new purchases made annually to retain a sense of contemporary art production; acquired from UH Galleries’ exhibitions, staff and alumni or through the Contemporary Art Society.
This exhibition highlights the collection’s range of media and subject matter, including: Caroline Archaintre’s extraordinary handtufted woolen wall piece, Jason Oddy’s bold architectural photographs, Phillip King’s animated drawings and Lisa Vickers’ delicate ceramic wall installation.
The University of Hertfordshire Colloection is a public resource to be appreciated by people within the county – it can be found within the university’s public spaces inside and out, across the de Havilland and College Lane Campuses.
