St Albans Literary Festival 2014 Fringe Event

7 November, 2014 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

In Search of Elizabeth Bennet

The Trust and the Museums Service are organising a fringe event for the inaugural St Albans Literary Festival. Elizabeth Bennet in the Assembly Room at the Town Hall.

Gillian Stapleton is returning to give us another one of her popular Costume-in-Context presentations. With thoughts from the actresses who have played Elizabeth Bennet, designers who have costumed her and the writers who have scripted her, Gillian will pare back the layers of history to reveal the young woman that Jane Austen imagined – “I think her the most delightful creature ever to appear in print”.

Highlights will include two superb and complete replica outfits, original Georgian fashion plates, and the stylish redingote.

The tickets are available to purchase, either in person or over the phone, from:

  • Verulamium Musem 01727 751810
  • Museum of St Albans 01727 819340
  • Tourist Information Centre 01727 864511

The tickets are £12, £10 for Museum Friends or £8 for students. If you purchase your tickets over the phone please make arrangements to collect them before the night.

Gillian’s website is here.
